This unit in Patterson Lakes already had something special going for it. The outlook was open, green, and full of light, but the space itself did not make the most of that view. A simple area sat at the rear of the home, offering shade but very little comfort or year round use. The owners wanted more than an outdoor structure. They wanted a proper Sunroom extension that felt connected to the home and worked as part of the main living area. The brief was clear. Turn the outdoor space into a fully enclosed Sun room, relocate existing windows into the new structure, remove one internal wall, and create a larger living space that felt natural, warm, and practical for everyday life.
Sunroom Extension Process
The project began with careful planning around structure, light, and flow. As a builder, it was critical to respect the original unit while improving it. Existing windows were carefully removed from the wall and installed into the new external wall line, maintaining consistency and character. One internal wall was removed to open the space, instantly changing how the home felt. New windows were installed to maximise light, while proper insulation and weather protection were added to suit Melbourne conditions. Inside, tiling was laid to match the rest of the home, using durable tiles that could handle daily living without losing style.
The Completed Result
The finished home extension now feels like it was always part of the home. Natural light pours through the windows, and the view that was once enjoyed from a distance is now part of everyday living. The removal of the wall created a generous open living area, perfect for relaxing or entertaining. The new Sunroom works as a seamless house extension, adding real value and comfort to the unit. Clean lines, solid walls, and well placed windows give the space balance, while the tiled flooring ties everything together visually and practically. It is calm, functional, and inviting.
